Co-curricular Learning

Every year, the University organises the Convocation to welcome new students. The Convocation ceremony marks an important tradition of the University to celebrate the beginning of the academic year. All new students are encouraged to attend the ceremony. At the Convocation, the President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alexander Ping-kong WAI, is going to give a welcoming address to new students. Students will be presented with an overview of the mission and vision of the University and its unique campus life. The “Global Virtual Exchange Summit 2025: Empowering Future Leaders in an Interconnected World” offers students an exceptional opportunity to engage and interact with distinguished speakers and peers from across the globe. This Summit is designed to provide a dynamic and vibrant platform for sharing insights, best practices, and groundbreaking research in the fields of intercultural exchange, and for engaging in thought-provoking discussions, innovative research, and collaborative solutions, all aimed at empowering future leaders in the interconnected world. Students will benefit from exposure to a wide range of perspectives on five key themes: Quality Intercultural Education, Digital Competencies, Global Citizenship, Public Health Engagement, and Cross-Cultural Industry Engagement. By participating, students will enhance their intercultural understanding, digital literacy, and global awareness, equipping them with essential future-ready skills necessary to succeed in the interconnected world. Additionally, the Summit aims to foster meaningful dialogue and actionable insights that will contribute to the development of future-ready graduates and responsible global citizens. This experience will prepare students to excel in a globally interconnected workforce.

The Summit is thrilled to announce the participation of distinguished Keynote Speakers, including Mr. Tayyeb Shah, Vice President, European Association for International Education, Professor GianMario Besana, Associate Provost for Global Engagement and Online Learning at DePaul University, and Professor Keiko Ikeda, Vice Director of the Institute for Innovative Global Education at Kansai University, Japan. We are equally delighted to welcome Professor Dr. Mira Kartiwi, Director, Centre for Professional Development at International Islamic University Malaysia, Professor Dr. Erwin Faller, Dean, College of Allied Health Sciences at Holy Child Central Colleges, Professor Cheryl Loadman, Professor, Edwards School of Business at University of Saskatchewan and Dr. Nor Zainiyah Norita Binti Mokhtar, Assistant Professor at International Islamic University Malaysia, as Invited Speakers. 在中華文明的璀璨星河中，詞作為一種獨特的文學形式，承載著文人墨客的精神追求與審美理想。從宋代到清末，詞人們以「澀」為美，在文字中寄託著對生命的思考、對藝術的探索。這種獨特的審美追求，不僅展現了中華文化的深邃內涵，更折射出中國文人在不同歷史時期的精神風貌。詞中之「澀」，既是藝術手法的創新，也是文人精神的寫照，更是中華文化生生不息的見證。

本場內容提要：
晚清時期，詞壇掀起一股「夢窗熱」，這是對宋代「澀」詞傳統的繼承與發展。以王鵬運、朱祖謀為代表的詞人，在繼承吳文英藝術特色的同時，又賦予「澀」詞新的時代內涵。
王鵬運的《半塘定稿》在繼承「澀」詞傳統的基礎上，融入更多的人生感慨。他的詞作以寄託遙深、意境幽遠見長，展現出獨特的藝術魅力。朱祖謀的《彊村語業》則在「澀」中融入更多的時代氣息，他的詞作以意象密集、語言凝練著稱，展現出深厚的藝術功力。
晚清「夢窗熱」的文化意義在於，它既是對傳統的繼承，也是對時代的回應。在西方文化衝擊的背景下，詞人們通過「澀」的藝術追求，表達對傳統文化的堅守與創新。
從宋代到清末，「澀」詞的演變歷程，展現了中國文人對藝術的執著追求。這種追求不僅體現在藝術手法的創新上，更體現在精神境界的昇華中。在當代社會，我們依然可以從「澀」詞中汲取智慧，感受中華文化的獨特魅力。這種魅力，既是對傳統的傳承，也是對未來的啟示。

In times of suffering, despair, or shame, it might seem that human life is no longer worth living. But the person and example of Jesus Christ shows us that life is always worth living. At times, human life must be improved, whether in health, knowledge, material resources, morals, or some other way. But the need for improvement is never an argument that our life is meaningless, only that it gains its ultimate meaning beyond itself. Christ’s experience of the depths of difficulty, and his overcoming of evil in his resurrection, is a source of hope and inspiration that reveals the mystery of human life in union with God.

王沂孫的《碧山樂府》則在「澀」中融入更多的人生況味。他的詞作以寄託遙深、意境幽遠見長，如《齊天樂．蟬》中「一襟余恨宮魂斷，年年翠陰庭樹」一句，通過意象的疊加與語言的凝練，表達出深沉的人生感慨。
